Carrollton, GA (June 8, 2023) – The Carrollton Police Department is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a grant of $1,100,752.40 from the office of Governor Brian Kemp. This grant will be instrumental in enhancing community public safety and strengthening our crime-fighting capabilities.
The funds awarded to the Carrollton Police Department will be primarily utilized for making Carrollton PD an entry point for surrounding agencies of the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN). This is a state-of-the-art tool that assists law enforcement agencies in identifying and linking ballistic evidence. It enables the quick analysis of firearms-related evidence, such as shell casings, and matches them to other cases within the NIBIN network. This technology significantly expedites investigations, leading to more efficient and effective law enforcement practices. This gives law enforcement agencies access to technology that allows us to research, identify, and cross-reference firearms ballistic data across a nationwide network.
The grant money will also be used to provide cutting-edge technology that will enable us to partner with residents and businesses, integrating their cameras into our existing surveillance infrastructure. The integration will encompass our city cameras, FLOCK cameras, NIBIN, and other advanced technologies, culminating in the establishment of a real-time crime center.
The real-time crime center will serve as a central hub for monitoring and analyzing data from various sources, allowing us to swiftly investigate and solve crimes, as well as apprehend violent offenders. By harnessing the power of integrated camera systems and NIBIN, we aim to create a safer environment for all residents of Carrollton.
The Carrollton Police Department is deeply grateful to Governor Brian Kemp’s office, Senator Mike Dugan, Representative Jay Collins, Representative Tyler Paul Smith, and Representative David Huddleston for recognizing the importance of community public safety and supporting our efforts to enhance crime-fighting capabilities. This grant represents a significant investment in our community and will undoubtedly have a lasting positive impact on the safety and well-being of our residents.
