CPD Investigates Kidnapping and Aggravated Battery at Super 8

Carrollton, GA (December 8, 2022) – James Derek Moore, age 33, of Sylacauga, AL, was arrested and charged with Kidnapping, Robbery, Aggravated Battery, Cruelty to Children 3rd Degree, Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Xanax, by Carrollton Police Department.

On December 7, 2022, around 5:30 am, officers responded to 881 S. Park Street, Super 8 Motel, in reference to a dispute.  When officers arrived, they discovered a male who had been assaulted.  Initial investigation revealed that Moore and the victim were outside a motel room talking when Moore forced the victim inside Moore’s room.  Once inside, Moore assaulted the victim causing significant injuries.  During the assault, Moore’s girlfriend and two small children were also in the room.   After the assault, Moore went to the victim’s room and robbed the victim’s father of a bag of medication. Moore then left the scene.

Around 8:00 am, Moore was located inside a local convenience store and taken into custody.  Moore was in possession of methamphetamine, Xanax, and a firearm during his arrest (while being a convicted felon).
